    Measuring for Recess Fitting

    STEP 1

Take three measurements across the width of the top, middle and bottom of the recess. The smallest measurement will be your blind width. Write down the smallest of the 3 measurements. Pay attention to any dado rails etc.

Note: be aware to avoid window handles. For tilt and trun windows the blind needs to go outside the recess.

    STEP 2

Take three measurements from the top down, along the left, middle and right of the recess. The smallest measurement will be your blind drop. Write down the smallest of the 3 measurements. All measurement to be in CM’s.

Measuring for Exact Fitting – Actual

    STEP 1

Measure outside the recess from one side to the other, starting and finishing at the outer sides of the Brackets. Write down the measurement.

    STEP 2

Measure outside the recess from one side to the other, starting and finishing where you want the edges of your blind. Write down the meassurement. Be careful that this will not interfere with anything else ie extractor fans etc. To minimize light leakage we recommend that the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 10cm on either side and above if it is to pass the sill then add a further 10cm on to the total length. For Venetian Blinds you only need to allow 5cm – or keep to the length of your window sill.

    Working Height

Please note that due to “Child Safety Requirements BS EN 13120” the operating chain needs to be at lease 150cm off the floor. Therfore we need to know the working height for each blind, this is the measurement from where the blind is being fitted to the floor.

Measuring for a bank of windows inside a window recess

Measure from wall to the middle of first window frame, then from the middle of that frame to the middle of the next frame, then middle of that frame to the end of the wall and so on. The drop is measured from the top of the recess to the window sill. And the Working Height is from top of window to floor.

    Measuring for Vertical Blind Slats

If you have an existing slat that you are looking to replace, then you can measure this. Remove the bottom weight and measure the total hem drop of the fabric slat from the very top the very bottom, ensure the fabric is flat with no folds or creases. This measurement is the drop size you will order called the Shoulder Drop. Now measure the width of the slat, this will either be 89mm or 127mm. When ordering ensure your selected fabric is the correct width.

If you do not have an existing slat available, then you can measure the size required at your window. With your headrail fitted, measure from the traveller hook opening down to where you wish your slat to finish. This is your drop size to order. We recommend the slat should finish approximately 13mm above any obstructions such sill or radiator.

Now calculate the number of slats you will require by either counting your existing ones or the number of travellers on your headrail.
